Sectors
01
Tourism sectors
The sectors of tourism are linked inside one itinerary, and a missing sector stops the trip even if the other pieces were excellent. The guest experiences one journey, not a list of industries.
Maps
02
Map work and tour planning
Itinerary timing across countries uses time zones, not only the hours the aircraft spends in the air. A clock at the destination is a different clock, and the plan has to say which one it means.
Finance
03
Foreign exchange
A tourist's rand does not stop at the first till: the multiplier effect is the way that spend becomes income for other people nearby. The exchange rate changes how many rand a foreign guest has, and how many rand a South African needs when they travel the other way.
Sustainability
04
Sustainable and responsible tourism
Carrying capacity is how much tourism a place can take before water, land or daily life is damaged, and leakage is the spend that leaves the local area. A bigger hotel is not automatically a better result for the village.
Culture
05
Culture and heritage tourism
A heritage route is a visit to the real history of a place, told where it happened. A costume show uses the look of that history without the meaning, and the guest has not done the route.
Service
06
Customer care and communication
Communication in customer care means answering the sentence the guest actually wrote. A polite reply that ignores the complaint is a failed reply.
Marketing
07
Marketing
A target market is the specific group a product is aimed at, and the marketing mix is how price, place, promotion and the offer are shaped for that group. The same rooms can be sold differently without pretending they are a new building.
